Billie Lourd and Austen Rydell knew each other for years before their relationship blossomed into a marriage.
The pair began dating in 2016 and broke up once before reconnecting and having a son in 2020. Lourd and Rydell married in March 2022, and in December 2022, Lourd’s father, Bryan Lourd, confirmed that the couple had welcomed their second baby.

Rydell has been a major support for the American Horror Story actress, whose mom, Carrie Fisher, died in 2016 at the age of 60 after a heart attack. He even incorporated Fisher into their engagement, proposing with a diamond ring that was reset from a sparkler Lourd’s talent agent dad originally used to propose to Fisher.

After being friends for years, Lourd and Rydell dated in 2016. However, their romance was short-lived as Lourd began dating her Scream Queens costar, Taylor Lautner, later that year.
In July 2017, PEOPLE confirmed that Lourd and Lautner had split. “They aren’t together anymore but they are still friendly,” a source said at the time. “She’s really focused on her work right now.”
October 2017: Billie Lourd and Austen Rydell reconnect
A few months after her split from Lautner, Lourd reconnected with Rydell. In October 2017, they were spotted kissing outside a hotel in Palm Springs, fueling rumors that they had rekindled their romance.
December 27, 2017: Billie Lourd and Austen Rydell visit Norway on the anniversary of Carrie Fisher’s death
One year after her mother’s death, Lourd paid tribute to Fisher by taking a trip to Norway to see the northern lights. During the trip, she was accompanied by Rydell; she documented their experience in an emotional Instagram post.
“My momby had an otherworldly obsession with the northern lights, but I never got to see them with her,” Lourd wrote next to two pictures showing green flashes lighting up the sky.

April 8, 2018: Billie Lourd celebrates Austen Rydell’s birthday in Japan
In April 2018, Lourd and Rydell jetted off to Tokyo to celebrate his 26th birthday. Lourd celebrated the occasion by sharing a shot of a photobooth strip that depicted Rydell kissing the actress on the cheek. “hbdbb,” she captioned the picture, abbreviating “happy birthday baby.”
She also shared a cute snapshot of her with her arms around Rydell as he dipped her back beneath a tree of cherry blossoms.
July 16, 2018: Austen Rydell takes Billie Lourd on a surprise birthday trip
A few months later, Rydell returned the favor by taking Lourd on a surprise trip to Las Vegas for her 26th birthday. “This king just surprised me with a 24 hour trip to Vegas and it’s safe to say I’m obsessed [with] him,” Lourd wrote on her Instagram Stories.

Lourd and Rydell made a low-key red carpet debut as a couple as they attended the LACMA Art + Film Gala together in November 2018. They previously made their first public appearance as a couple at a Christian Dior fashion show in May 2018.
June 26, 2020: Billie Lourd and Austen Rydell announce their engagement
In June 2020, Rydell announced the exciting news that he proposed to Lourd.

A few months after announcing their engagement, Lourd and Rydell quietly welcomed their first child together, a baby boy named Kingston Fisher Lourd Rydell. Lourd announced the news on Instagram in September 2020, showing a snapshot of his tiny feet.
On Valentine’s Day 2021, she gave a sweet shoutout to her favorite boys as she posted a picture of her and Rydell kissing Kingston.

Lourd and Rydell headed to Disneyland with friends to experience the new Star Wars attraction, which she called the “best ride ever” in shared footage.
To further honor her late mother, Lourd wore Princess Leia Mickey Mouse ears on the ride.
It wasn’t the first time Lourd brought aspects of Fisher’s work into her present-day family. Previously, on May 4, she posted a photo of her son wearing a Princess Leia knit beanie and watching one of Fisher’s Star Wars scenes on a laptop.
July 20, 2021: Billie Lourd and Austen Rydell list $2.8 million mansion
After three years of living just off Melrose Boulevard in Los Angeles, Lourd and Rydell listed their home.
The home was designed in a Cape Cod style and had five bedrooms, six bathrooms and three fireplaces over 3,566 square feet. The backyard featured a built-in firepit and small swimming pool.
The property hit the market months after it was revealed that Lourd had begun renovating two adjoining properties previously owned by her late mother and grandmother to create an $18 million estate where she would continue to grow her family with Rydell.
September 22, 2021: Billie Lourd and Austen Rydell celebrate son’s first birthday
Sharing never-before-seen family photos, Lourd wished Rydell a happy “parental anniversary” on social media to commemorate their son’s first birthday.
She added in a hashtag, “Petition to make parental anniversary a thing.”
She also posted a photo of herself in the hospital before giving birth.
“He’s not technically a quarantine baby, and I want to make that known because a lot of people are having trendy quarantine babies,” she said. “Kingston was conceived before quarantine. He’s technically just a Caribbean baby.”
February 21, 2022: Billie Lourd celebrates her bachelorette party before her wedding to Austen Rydell
Almost two years after their engagement, Lourd celebrated her bachelorette party in February 2022. The actress posted a series of photos on Instagram, including shots of her wearing a white leisure set with feather trim along with red heart-shaped sunglasses and white Minnie Mouse-themed bridal headwear.
March 12, 2022: Billie Lourd and Austen Rydell get married
One month after her bachelorette party, Lourd and Rydell tied the knot in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on March 12, 2022. Lourd later shared photos from her nuptials, including shots of her Rodarte gown, which paid tribute to her late mom.
“We wrote our own vows and sobbed the entire time,” Lourd told Vogue about her wedding. “Word to the wise — always wear waterproof everything!”

In May 2022, Lourd opened up to PEOPLE about the ceremony, which was officiated by Fisher’s “two best friends.”
“It was the most genius officiating in the history of officiating,” says Lourd. “It was so funny and touching and we sobbed and we laughed, and that was my favorite part of it.”

Lourd’s late mother, Carrie Fisher, was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. At the official unveiling of the star, the American Horror Story actress, who wore a Star Wars-themed dress, gave a touching speech.

In honor of Star Wars Day on May 4, Lourd shared a photo of kids Kingston and Jackson sitting in front of the TV, watching their late grandmother in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.
In her caption, Lourd wrote, “Ⓜ️🅰️🌱 ✝️♓️📧 4️⃣✝️♓️,” spelling out “May the 4th” in emojis, meant to reference the iconic phrase from the franchise, “may the force be with you.”
