Billy Joel Delays Tour to Heal: A Journey Through Surgery and Recovery

Fans will need to wait a bit longer to witness Billy Joel perform live.
The “Uptown Girl” legend, 75, took to Instagram on March 11 and notified his supporters he’s delaying his forthcoming tour for four months due to a “health issue,” as he has to “undergo rehabilitation under the guidance of his medical team” to recuperate following a recent operation.
As per a statement released by his team, the postponed dates include eight performances across North America and Europe, several of which are co-headlined with Sting and Stevie Nicks. Joel disclosed the revised dates for seven of the eight performances, with the last one marked as “TBD.”
“Joel is anticipated to make a complete recovery,” continued the statement from his team. “The tour will recommence at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on July 5, 2025.”
The “Vienna” artist also issued a personal statement to his fans. “Though I dislike postponing any shows, my health takes priority,” he stated.
“I eagerly await the time to return to the stage and share the joy of live music with our fantastic fans,” wrote Joel. “Thank you for your patience.”
After his performance at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, his tour will proceed with events in cities such as New York City, Washington, D.C., Cincinnati, New Orleans and beyond. The complete itinerary can be found on his website.
Joel recently experienced a fall during a Feb. 22 show at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut, seemingly stumbling, falling backward, and landing on his side during a rendition of the 1980 hit “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me.”
According to recordings from the concert, the Grammy award winner swiftly recovered and got back on his feet as the crowd cheered.
