Chelsea Handler Reveals Why She Felt ‘Tapped Out’ of Interviewing Celebrities

Chelsea Handler recently discussed her shift away from interviewing celebrities, a format she once heavily utilized on her late-night talk show, during a recent Q&A. Now, she dedicates her time to hosting the “Dear Chelsea” podcast, where she offers guidance on matters of love, sex, family, and loss.

The comedian and bestselling author explained at the 2025 PHM Healthfront Conference in New York City on May 1 why she felt “tapped out” with celebrity interviews and why she frequently invites her therapist onto her “Dear Chelsea” podcast.

“When I was approached about doing a podcast, I was initially hesitant, thinking everyone has one,” the former “Chelsea Lately” host said, reflecting on her early podcasting days in her 40s. “I had just finished two years of intense therapy and thought, ‘How can I create something where I’m talking to real people, not celebrities?'”

“I’m done with that. I need to connect with real people. And then I thought, ‘I’ve learned so much from my therapist,'” she continued. “His name was Dan Siegel, who I went to. His name still is Dan Siegel.”

“Dear Chelsea,” a weekly advice show co-hosted with Catherine Law, now welcomes a diverse range of guests, not exclusively celebrities. While some celebrity guests have appeared, the focus has shifted.

“I’ve always given unsolicited advice,” Handler said about the podcast’s format. “So, I wondered what would happen if people actually called in and asked for advice about their life problems?”

On the podcast, the author provides advice on love, sex, family, and loss. Listeners can submit their questions to [email protected] on these topics and more.

Handler’s latest comedy special, “Chelsea Handler: The Feeling,” is currently available on Netflix. Stay tuned for more updates from Eternal Pen!
