On the May 3 episode of Saturday Night Live, the actor, 42, made an appearance as himself toward the end of a sketch to desperately try to sell the Staten Island ferry he purchased with Pete Davidson in 2022.

The sketch, called “Ferry Altercation,” featured host Quinta Brunson, 35, and cast member Mikey Day, 45, as two angry drivers insulting each other with exaggerated hand gestures after a parking issue on a ferry. Chloe Fineman, 36, also starred as Day’s daughter and car passenger.
Jost showed up at the end of the skit when Day said the aggressive encounter left him upset because he usually “loves the ferry.” Summoned, the “Weekend Update” co-host appeared at the passenger side of the car and placed his hands against the window as he peered inside.
“Hey!” he exclaimed. “You said you love ferries? If you love ferries, would you like to buy one?” Fineman then gasped and said, “Oh my god,” as Jost persisted.
“Is that Colin Jost?” she asked. “Yes, that’s Colin Jost. Don’t make eye contact,” Day said, also telling Jost, “We’re good, man.”
“Please buy it,” Jost continued to beg. As the two ignored him, he tried a different method. “Hey! Hi! I’m Pete Davidson, hi,” he said, still at the car window.
Jost, who has been with the long-running comedy show since 2005, teamed up with former SNL cast member Davidson and The Stand comedy club owner Paul Italia to buy the MV John F. Kennedy, a decommissioned Staten Island ferry boat. Both Jost and Davidson were born in Staten Island.

The comedian previously made a cameo on the Jan. 22 broadcast of Today with Jenna & Friends, guest hosted by his wife, actress Scarlett Johansson. During his appearance, she suggested he should sell the ferry.
“All I can say is if anybody out there would like to start a GoFundMe for the Staten Island Ferry, please be my guest,” Johansson, 40, joked. “I don’t know if I’m speaking for the Staten Island Ferry or against it, but help our family. This has now become a telethon for Support the Staten Island Ferry.”
Jost was quick to defend his purchase, telling viewers that it will eventually bring in the big bucks. “All I’ll say is I hope you have a good, thick pair of gloves at home because someday you’re going to be getting paper cuts from all the checks that start rolling in from this ferry,” he said.
In September 2024, Jost told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview that his ferry purchase was not his smartest move.
“It is absolutely the dumbest and least thought-through purchase I’ve ever made in my life,” Jost said. “The way I justified it is for the amount of money we were putting into buying it, on just a basic square-footage level, is if you found the right place for it to be, you were essentially buying a building on its side that’s 65,000 square feet. So around New York, that is a very good price per square foot.”
