Diddy’s Courtroom Style: What He Can (and Can’t) Wear

Sean “Diddy” Combs is preparing for his upcoming and long-awaited trial concerning allegations of sex trafficking.
On Wednesday, April 30, the musician’s legal team requested that he be allowed to appear in court not wearing his jail uniform, according to court documents.
The Southern District of New York granted permission for him to “receive non-prison clothing” for his trial, which is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 5. The singer, 55, is permitted to have five button-down shirts, up to five pairs of pants, up to five sweaters, up to five pairs of socks, and up to two pairs of shoes without laces.
In previous court appearances, Combs wore a tan prison uniform.
Combs was arrested in New York City in September 2024, and federal prosecutors indicted him on sex trafficking and racketeering charges. The latter charge carries a minimum sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
Prosecutors allege that Combs forced or coerced women into participating in sexual acts. The indictment also claims that Combs used his business empire to conduct what prosecutors describe as highly orchestrated sex performances.
He pleaded not guilty to all counts. The trial is expected to last eight weeks and may include testimony from some high-profile witnesses.
In early April, it was confirmed that Combs’ former girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, will testify in the trial. Court documents indicate that victims listed as “Victim-2″ and “Victim-4” will all testify anonymously.
Ventura sued Combs in November 2023, accusing him of sexual assault, prior to his indictment. The suit was settled the following day. Since then, Combs has faced lawsuits from numerous others accusing him of sexual misconduct.
On Tuesday, April 15, Combs was charged with one additional count each of sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution, according to court documents at the time. The new charges are related to a plaintiff referred to as Victim-2, as stated in the indictment. He has denied all allegations.
