Eric Dane’s ALS Fight: Why He’s Not Slowing Down

The actor, who first shared his ALS diagnosis earlier this year, recently discussed some of the challenges he’s been facing during an in-depth interview.
Just a year and a half after his symptoms began, the star revealed that he has lost control of his right arm and is concerned about losing mobility in other areas of his body.
“I have one functioning arm. My dominant side. My left side is functioning, my right side has completely stopped working,” he explained, adding that the function on his left side is slowly deteriorating. “It’s going. I feel like maybe a couple, few more months, and I won’t have my left hand either. It’s sobering.”
He also mentioned that while he can still walk, he is worried about his legs.
Despite these health changes, the actor returned to filming season 3 of a popular series shortly after revealing his diagnosis.
In his emotional interview, he shared, “I don’t think this is the end of my story. I don’t feel like this is the end of me.”
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rare degenerative condition that causes progressive muscle paralysis. Patients typically first experience twitching or weakness in a limb, often followed by slurred speech. Because the disease affects the nerve cells in the brain and spine that control muscle movement, patients gradually lose their ability to speak, eat, walk, and breathe independently.
There is currently no cure for ALS, and the average life expectancy after diagnosis is three to five years, according to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. However, some patients can live for many years beyond that. Stay tuned for more updates from Eternal Pen.
