Inside Jessa Duggar’s Growing Family: Meet Spurgeon, Henry, Ivy, Fern, George, and the Little One on the Horizon!

Spurgeon Elliot Seewald, 9

Jessa and Ben celebrated the arrival of their first child, Spurgeon Elliot, on Nov. 5, 2015, just a few days after their initial wedding anniversary. Their son entered the world at their residence in Arkansas following a challenging, nearly two-day labor.

“Labor is tough,” Jessa recounted to PEOPLE shortly after his birth, describing the process as “very intense” and “very lengthy.” She endured 10 hours of contractions prior to Spurgeon’s birth. “Everything was unlike what I anticipated,” she remarked.

Shortly after delivering him, the new mother was urgently transported to the hospital for a blood transfusion but swiftly returned home to commence her journey of motherhood. “I can’t believe he’s truly ours,” she said, calling her newborn son “a miracle.”

The couple dedicated some time to selecting the ideal name for their little one.

“We aim to give him a powerful name imbued with significance,” Jessa conveyed to PEOPLE at that moment. Ultimately, they decided to name him after one of Ben’s idols, the renowned British preacher Charles Spurgeon.

Jessa has mentioned that her eldest has flourished into a sweet and supportive big brother to his three siblings. On the Duggar Family blog, she characterized Spurgeon as kind, “creative,” and “thoughtful,” with a fondness for “imaginative play” and literature.

“He’s a sweet-hearted, chatty little fellow, and he brings us joy with the amusing things he says,” she shared. “He’s considerate with his expressions — expressing gratitude when individuals assist him and commenting if he finds someone’s outfit appealing.”

Henry Wilberforce Seewald, 8

Fifteen months after the birth of baby Spurgeon, Jessa and Ben welcomed their second son, Henry Wilberforce, on Feb. 6, 2017. He was delivered at home like his elder brother, but Jessa found the experience notably smoother the second time.

“Labor is labor, but it was serene and laid-back,” she disclosed to PEOPLE, “Ben and I were astonished at how quickly it unfolded.”

In fact, it occurred so abruptly that Jessa’s mother, family matriarch Michelle Duggar, and older sister, Jana, nearly missed it. “They arrived just at the end,” Jessa recounted. “I was already in the pushing stage when they walked in.”

The reality star may have been raised in a notably large family, but she conveyed that adapting to another child was still a “challenge.”

“I feel like every day is a new adventure,” she elaborated in a 2017 episode of Counting On. “Some days it’s very, very straightforward … Other days, it’s a bit more chaotic.”

Jessa wasn’t the only one who had to adapt. In discussions with PEOPLE post Henry’s birth, the couple shared their observations about Spurgeon’s reaction to becoming a big brother.

“We assumed, ‘This will be immensely cute,’ yet he was somewhat uncertain about it,” Jessa confessed. “He believed Henry was a toy.” Ben shared that their eldest displayed “no understanding of being gentle.”

Fortunately, that might not have posed a problem for Henry, who Jessa described on the Duggar Family blog as “fearless, lively, and full of vigor.” She noted that he “possesses a robust sense of right and wrong” and delights in singing, reading, and snuggling with his parents.

Jessa marked Henry’s sixth birthday with an adorable Instagram tribute. “Henry is a beam of sunshine in our home!” she penned alongside a photo of him enjoying an ice cream cone. She also highlighted his passions for reading, constructing with Legos, and cuddling with her, along with commending his ability to care for his sister Ivy.

“He’s extremely gentle and nurturing towards his baby sister and utterly cherishes her,” Jessa remarked. “He’s both tender and daring, affectionate and full of laughter.”

Ivy Jane Seewald, 5

On May 26, 2019, Jessa and Ben welcomed their first daughter and third child, Ivy Jane.

“She feels incredibly petite compared to her brothers!” the couple remarked in a statement. “She is already immensely cherished. Her big brothers absolutely adore her!”

While Jessa and Ben took time to pick names for their sons, they had chosen Ivy for their daughter well before her birth. “Ivy Jane, we simply adored those two names,” Ben mentioned in a TLC video shortly after her arrival. “We liked how those names complemented each other.”

He further explained the inspiration behind the name. “With her middle name, Jane, she’s named after Lady Jane Grey,” he elaborated, referring to one of England’s shortest-reigning monarchs. “She was a remarkably influential figure to us.”

Welcoming a daughter to the family after having two sons was thrilling for them. “I definitely shed some tears,” Jessa revealed. Ben, too, experienced an overwhelming surge of emotions.

“Holding little Ivy for the first time was truly a special moment for me,” he expressed. “I was absorbing everything in. I can’t quite describe what I felt at that moment.

The other day, it struck me: ‘Wow, I might be escorting her down the aisle one day.’ ”

It appeared that Spurgeon and Henry were just as captivated by her. “She adores her elder brothers and has them completely enraptured,” Jessa mentioned on the Duggar Family blog. Furthermore, Jessa shared insights about her eldest daughter’s character.

“She possesses the largest, brightest blue eyes,” the mother noted, adding that she has “an impressive vocabulary” and “so much character packed into such a small being!”

Fern Elliana Seewald, 3

In February 2021, Jessa revealed that she and Ben were expecting their fourth child following a previous miscarriage. On July 19, their daughter, Fern Elliana, was born. In contrast to her older siblings, who were delivered at home, she arrived in a hospital.

In a YouTube clip, Jessa discussed the choice, stating that while she felt apprehensive about the adjustment, it seemed to be the best path considering her “history.”

“I’ve undergone three home births, all successful and uncomplicated, yet I have faced postpartum hemorrhage twice,” she explained.

Jessa further commented that while she would miss “the coziness of home,” she was eager for the option of an epidural this time.

In the first segment of Jessa’s birth story video series on YouTube, she confessed that selecting the perfect name for Fern was somewhat challenging.

“It feels like with each additional child, we’ve exhausted our favorites,” she remarked. “And I haven’t consistently liked the same names from one pregnancy to another. It has definitely evolved.”

In terms of personality, Jessa has characterized Fern as a sweet and cheerful child.

“She’s probably the happiest baby you could ever encounter!” she shared on the Duggar Family blog. “She seldom cries and is filled with smiles, regardless of whether she knows you. Her elder siblings are always bringing her toys or amusing her, catering to her every desire!”

In a December 2023 YouTube video discussing her fifth pregnancy, Jessa disclosed that Fern was eager to become a big sister. “She is frequently talking about the baby and her excitement,” Jessa noted. “She tells everyone Mommy has a baby in her belly, kisses my belly, and says, ‘I want to hold the baby.’ ”

George Augustine Seewald, 1

In September 2023, Jessa announced she was expecting baby No. 5 following another miscarriage in 2022. The next month, the former TLC star provided a pregnancy update on Instagram.

“Every heartbeat heard, every ultrasound seen, every appointment with a positive report… the anxieties diminish a little more,” she shared alongside a photo of her recent ultrasound. “YOU ARE SO, SO LOVED, my little one #rainbowbaby🌈.”

A few months later, Jessa revealed that her son, George Augustine Seewald, was born on December 19, 2023, sharing a video of his birth on YouTube. Subsequently, she posted another video showcasing her older four children meeting their baby brother for the first time in the hospital.

“Just when you think your heart can’t be any fuller as a parent, you witness your bigger kids loving on the newborn baby, and your heart swells with emotion,” Jessa expressed. “It’s the most touching sight to behold.”

Jessa is presently expecting the couple’s sixth child. She made the announcement on Instagram in March 2025 by posting a series of sonogram images.

“We’re halfway to having you in our arms!” the reality star captioned the post.
