The Notebook’s Ultimate Choice: James Marsden Weighs In
Ever since Allie Hamilton chose Noah Calhoun in the 2004 film, fans have debated whether she made the right choice. James Marsden, who played Lon Hammond, Jr., has shared his thoughts on the matter.
Lon is portrayed as a handsome, affluent lawyer from a respected Southern family, engaged to Allie Hamilton. However, she doesn’t marry him. Instead, Allie chooses Noah, depicted as her true love.
The film, based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, has fueled discussions among fans about whether Allie made the correct decision.
In a recent interview, Marsden addressed the question of whether Lon deserved a different outcome.
“It’s funny. Many people kindly tell me, ‘Lon was the whole package. He was wealthy, treated her well, trusted her, and offered a healthy relationship,’ while they see Allie and Noah’s relationship as unhealthy and toxic,” Marsden shared, recounting conversations with fans about his character. “While I see that and understand it, love is love.”
“The dynamic between Allie and Noah, their chemistry, was undeniable,” Marsden continued. “So, I think she should have ended up with Noah. That kind of fiery love can still be the right thing, the right person to be with.”
Marsden believes that in another fictional world, Lon has found his own happy ending.
“Lon isn’t a bad guy; he’s a really good guy! But there’s another lady out there for him, I’m sure, who’s very happy,” he joked.
Marsden has recently started filming season 2 of *Your Friends & Neighbors*, alongside John Hamm and Olivia Munn.
Although he’s joining the show in its second season, he’s enjoying his time filming and the show’s success.
“*Your Friends & Neighbors* is doing really well,” he said. “It’s a fun thing to be a part of… they’ve been very welcoming, and it’s a fun role.”
