Jill Whelan Teases Another Upcoming Love Boat Reunion as She Shares Why It’s ‘Special’ to Work Together as Adults (Exclusive)

- In September, Whelan will reunite with Grandy and Lange in an Off-Broadway show that Lange wrote, and she tells PEOPLE they have a Love Boat reunion podcast in the works
Jill Whelan found fame as a teen on The Love Boat, and now, at 58, she has a role with the real-life Love Boat cruise line, serving as Princess Cruises’ Celebrations Ambassador.
“I’m really lucky,” Whelan tells PEOPLE. “I mean, it’s not a cubicle I’m working in!”

Whelan has reunited with costars Fred Grandy, Bernie Kopell and Ted Lange on Princess’ The Love Boat Celebration sailing in recent years, and they’ll gather on board again in November when this year’s celebration sets sail out of Galveston, Texas, to Mexico.
“That’s going to be super fun,” Whelan teases. “The guests they’re having are insane.”
She recently checked off another “bucket list item”: watching the construction of the Star Princess in Italy ahead of its maiden voyage in September.
“It did not disappoint. It was the coolest thing,” she says. “It’s just so interesting to me how it all comes together. I cannot wait to see her finished.”
No matter where in the world Whelan finds herself, the mom of three always gets recognized — but not always for her role as Vicki Stubing on The Love Boat. “Somebody recognized me from my podcast that I do called Empty Nester in Georgia, and that was pretty crazy,” Whelan says. “I don’t even know if they knew about Love Boat, but they recognized our tiny little podcast that we just started. That was fun!”
