John Krasinski made his Off-Broadway debut on Wednesday, June 11, and had a special someone supporting him in the audience.
The Office alum and PEOPLE’s reigning Sexiest Man Alive, 45, stars in Angry Alan, the darkly comedic one-man play by Penelope Skinner that officially opened at the brand-new Studio Seaview theater in New York City. And his wife, actress Emily Blunt, was in attendance to celebrate the milestone evening.
Photos of the pair at opening together were not shared by the production, but Blunt, 42, was among the celebrity guests named in a press release shared with PEOPLE on Friday, June 13. She attended alongside stars like Sienna Miller, Jeremy Strong, Naomi Watts, Billy Crudup, Laura Linney and more.
Michael Kelly — Krasinski’s costar in the Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series on Prime Video — was also there. The friends were photographed sharing a laugh together as they embraced after the show.
Directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold and created with Don Mackay, Angry Alan follows Roger — a man recently divorced and demoted, feeling untethered in a world that seems to have left him behind. When an online influencer offers a sense of clarity, Roger dives headfirst into a digital echo chamber in search of meaning and validation.
The play explores themes of identity, extremism and the personal cost of chasing certainty in an ever-changing world. “I am THRILLED to be getting on stage this spring/summer in Angry Alan!,” Krasinski wrote on Instagram when the play was announced.
He added, “A phenomenal play written by the equally phenomenal Penelope Skinner and directed by the incomparable Sam Gold! I couldn’t be more excited to be returning to Off Broadway, and to be surrounded by such a force of talent in Penny and Sam is quite literally a dream scenario.”
Krasinski last appeared Off-Broadway in the 2016 Public Theater production of Sarah Burgess’ play Dry Powder. He starred in the production opposite three-time Emmy winner Claire Danes and six-time Emmy winner Hank Azaria.
His performance in Angry Alan marks the New York premiere of the critically acclaimed solo show, which was first seen at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It was embraced by audiences and critics, and named one of his top plays in Europe that year.
The limited production is currently scheduled for just 10 weeks, through Aug. 3.
Wednesday’s opening night also served as the grand opening for Studio Seaview, a new Off-Broadway venue launched by award-winning production company Seaview. The venue occupies the former Tony Kiser Theatre (305 West 43rd Street) in midtown Manhattan.

The evening started with an official ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the grand opening. Carla Hoke-Miller, the executive director of Theatre and Live Performance partnerships at the Mayor’s office of media and entertainment, joined the ceremony and shared a few words to mark the occasion.
Following the performance, the audience and invited guests went to The View for a special party to celebrate.

Krasinski and Blunt — who married in 2010 and share daughters Hazel, 11, and Violet, 8 — have been vocal supporters of each other’s work.
“I wouldn’t be anywhere in my life without her,” he said, in a 2022 interview with Parade. “On a daily basis, but certainly … career-wise, as a dad, she pushes me to be better every single day at everything I do.”
“It’s that beautiful thing where when you’re married to someone, you’re constantly learning and changing and evolving,” he told PEOPLE in his Sexiest Man Alive cover story. “And I’m so lucky to go through all that with her.”
Tickets for Angry Alan are available on sale now.
