Liam Gallagher Reflects on ‘Wasted Years’ as Oasis Reunion Approaches: ‘Waste of Precious Time’

Oasis is reflecting on time gone by.

On Wednesday, June 11, a fan asked Liam Gallagher on X how it felt performing with his brother and Oasis bandmate Noah Gallagher after time had passed. “How does it feel singing songs with ur brother again? Like old times?” the fan asked.

Liam, 52, had a bittersuite response. “You know what it’s spiritual but I can’t help think about all those wasted years what a waste of PRECIOUS time,” he said.

Another fan asked how Liam felt about being back in the spotlight. “All eyes on you and Oasis again — pressure or just another regular week?” they wrote, to which Liam responded: “I wouldn’t do it if there was pressure I’m not that kind of soul.”

The band, which formed in Manchester in 1991, included the Gallagher brothers, Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan and Tony McCarroll. Oasis is best known for “Wonderwall,” “Stop Crying Your Heart Out,” “Champagne Supernova” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger.”

Throughout the band’s existence, there were rumors of sibling rivalry between Liam and Noel among the turbulent behind-the-scenes happenings.

Arthurs, 59, and McGuigan, 54 left the band in 1999. A few years later, drummer Allen White (who joined Oasis in 1995), left the band as well.

In 2009 following a reported dispute between Liam and Noel backstage at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris, Noel, 58, left the band, essentially breaking up Oasis. He announced his departure hours later on the band’s website.

“With some sadness and great relief…I quit Oasis tonight,” he wrote. “People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”

The brothers Gallagher feuded for years, with Noel forming a new band and Liam soldiering on with the remaining bandmembers and snubbing one another.

There were rumors for years about an Oasis reunion but nothing came to fruition until August 2024. Days before, the band posted a cryptic video on Instagram with the date Aug. 27, 2024 and an 8 a.m. timestamp. When the time came, Oasis announced their reunion.

“The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised,” Oasis said in a statement, announcing their reunion tour in August 2024. The band has shows kicking off in the UK and Ireland this summer.

In late August, the band will head to North America for shows in Toronto, East Rutherford, N.J., Los Angeles and Mexico City before returning to Europe in September. Shows in South Korea, Japan, Australia and South America.
