Lorde put an end to her four-year Met Gala hiatus.
The Grammy winner, 28, stepped out at the 2025 Met Gala on Monday, May 5, sporting a silver Thom Browne look featuring a floating bandeau top, matching silver suit jacket and matching maxi skirt.

For the occasion, the “Royals” singer (born Ella Yelich-O’Connor) accessorized with some diamonds on her ears and wrists, opted for some hiding white shoes and pulled her hair back in a silver-adorned braid as she bared her back.
The back of her skirt featured laces working their way down the middle, while Lorde carried her suit jacket alongside her on the red carpet for some of the journey up the Met steps.
Over on Instagram, the singer shared a clip of her dress to emphasize the details, soundtracked by her new single, “What Was That.”
“Hide your forks,” she cheekily captioned the video.
Lorde’s look marked her take on the night’s theme, the same as the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” It also marked her first Met Gala since 2021. The current exhibit itself is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.
The “What Was That” singer’s last look for the event featured charm details, a full train and a spiky crown, which she paired with a two-piece ivory get-up and white flats to coincide with 2021’s “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” theme.
Lorde previously attended the Met Gala in both 2016 and 2015, as well.

Just last week, the New Zealand artist announced her first new album in four years, Virgin. On April 30, Lorde uploaded an Instagram post, featuring the album cover which appeared to be a pelvic X-Ray featuring a zipper. The album will feature production from collaborators Jim-E Stack, with Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, Buddy Ross, Dan Nigro and Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes, her website noted.
“I’M PROUD AND SCARED OF THIS ALBUM,” Lorde wrote in an email to fans. “THERE’S NOWHERE TO HIDE. I BELIEVE THAT PUTTING THE DEEPEST PARTS OF OURSELVES TO MUSIC IS WHAT SETS US FREE.”
In conversation with BBC 1 amid album-announcement week, Lorde also revealed how her remix collaboration with Charli xcx for “Girl, so confusing” helped inspire the new LP.
“Brat coming out really gave me a kick in a lot of ways,” Lorde told host Jack Saunders. “It forced me to further define what I was doing because Charli had so masterfully defined everything about Brat, and I knew that what I was doing was very distinct to that.”
She added: “When a peer throws the gauntlet down like that, you’re like ‘Okay, yeah, we’ve gotta pick it up’. I’ve spoken to a lot of peers who’ve all had the same feelings. It’s very sick and I’m so grateful to her.”
