Nicole Scherzinger Praises Fiancé Thom Evans for Sunset Blvd. Support: ‘He Really Gets Me’ (Exclusive)

Nicole Scherzinger has had her rock by her side the whole time she’s been Norma Desmond in Sunset Blvd.

The Tony Award-winning actress, 46, tells PEOPLE while discussing her new partnership with Clairol and Bala that her fiancé, Thom Evans, has been the best partner through her West End and Broadway runs of the show.

“It’s really important to have a partner who supports you and believes in you, like I said in my [Tony Awards acceptance] speech, when you sometimes forget to believe in yourself,” she tells PEOPLE of Evans. “And he’s been such a constant and a rock for me during this time, and he just really, he really gets me, my fiancé. He’s gotten me from day one.”

Scherzinger also admits she’s “not like most people,” adding, “I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I’m an extremely hard worker. Nothing’s ever enough. And he understands that about me, and he supports me in every way that I need to be supported. And he just gets me.”

The former Pussycat Doll says that when she was prepping for the show to debut on the West End in September 2023, she was keeping her “head down” because she likes to “work alone” and he respects that.

“He’s just the best,” she gushes of Evans, 40, a former Scottish rugby player. “He’ll go. He’ll be like, ‘I’m going to go to London, give you your space, but then he came back right in time to just be there for me and to hold my hand. He’s the best.”

Evans was by her side at the Tony Awards on June 8, where she took home the award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Norma Desmond. She gave him a sweet shoutout from the stage in her acceptance speech, and he took to Instagram after the fact to congratulate her on her win.

Alongside a photo of her in her sparkling Rodarte gown, Evans wrote, “My love @nicolescherzinger, It’s hard to put into words the love, respect and admiration that I have for you, but I will give it my best shot. For over 2 years now, through blood, sweat and tears you have sacrificed everything to pursue a vision. A vision, in which you would finally be seen and recognized for the God given talent that you have.”

“To witness first hand the absolute dedication and commitment you have given to the role of Norma Desmond is truly awe inspiring to me and anybody who has been fortunate enough to see you in @sunsetblvdmusical,” he added. “To me, you will always be the Greatest Star of All and I love you with all my heart.”

Evans and Scherzinger met in 2019 on the set of The X Factor: Celebrity, where he was a contestant and she was a judge and mentor. They began dating later that year, but they didn’t go public with their romance until they attended a Golden Globe Awards afterparty red carpet together in January 2020. Three years later, in 2023, he proposed on a beach.

Scherzinger stars in Sunset Blvd. on Broadway until July 20. Tickets are now on sale.
