Harry Styles and a Papal Election: The Untold Story
Even Harry Styles recognizes that things have shifted since the 2025 papal conclave.
The 31-year-old singer was seen by fans amongst the crowd gathered in Saint Peter’s Square in the Vatican on Thursday, May 8th. This was the day Pope Leo XIV was elected to succeed the late Pope Francis, who passed away in April at the age of 88.
The Grammy winner was seen wearing a blue jacket, sunglasses, and a grey baseball cap with the words “Techno is My Boyfriend” on it. The hat, sold by IDEA, is currently out of stock.
The photo of Styles in Vatican City quickly gained traction online. One fan commented on X, alongside a picture of Pope Leo XIV, “little did the pope know he was waving to harry styles.”
Another X user wrote, “One thing about harry styles, he’s always going to accidentally serve cinema somewhere in europe.”
Styles wrapped up his record-breaking Love on Tour in 2023. This included a 15-show residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City and a sold-out show at Slane Castle in County Meath, Ireland. The tour followed the release of the One Direction alum’s 2022 album *Harry’s House*, which won a Grammy for Album of the Year in 2023.
Since the end of the extensive tour, Styles has been traveling the world. In March, he was spotted participating in a marathon in Tokyo, where he outperformed over 20,000 runners, finishing in under 3:30. Also in March, an Instagram user, a ride-share driver known as Pink London Taxi, shared her experience with the singer, which went viral.
“Picked up this young fella on my way home tonight,” she wrote in the caption. “We got chatting and I said ‘You really sound like Harry Styles’ He said ‘That’s because I am Harry Styles’ 🤣🤣🤣 He was such a friendly young chap!”
In April, the “Carolina” singer made an appearance at a London run club, dressed in jeans and loafers.
Styles was recently present for the start of a new chapter. Pope Leo XIV, 69, is the first American pope in the history of the Catholic Church. The pope, whose birth name is Robert Francis Prevost, is from Chicago and is an alumnus of Villanova University.
Pope Leo XIV is a member of the Augustinian Order. Founded in Italy in 1244, the Augustinian Order is primarily dedicated to serving the poor and has historically served as missionaries, according to its official website.
