The royal family is celebrating a successful Trooping the Colour celebration!

In an Instagram post shared on the Duke and Duchess of Wales’ account, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, could be seen posing for an impromptu family portrait.

The photo shows the family of five smiling together, dressed in their color-coordinated outfits as they seemingly stood on a staircase outside Buckingham Palace in London. Princess Charlotte, 10, could be seen matching with her mom in an aqua dress. Prince George, 11, and Prince Louis, 7, sported suits with red ties, coordinating with their dad’s red military uniform featuring a leek symbol on the neckline — although Prince William had removed his traditional bearskin cap for the family photo.

Charlotte could also be seen wearing a special piece of jewelry — a brooch gifted by her late great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth, which she previously wore to the late monarch’s funeral in September 2022.

“Another brilliant day at Trooping the Colour for His Majesty’s Birthday Parade,” the Duke and Duchess of Wales captioned their Instagram post. “Thank you to everybody who came, and to all those who took part.”

Trooping the Colour is the royal family’s annual celebration honoring William’s father, King Charles, who turns 77 this November. The June 14 event marked the third time the monarch has been honored with the tradition during his reign.

William was one of three members of the royal family who rode on horseback during the London parade. He was joined by his aunt Princess Anne and his uncle Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, while his wife and children arrived by car at Buckingham Palace before transferring to a horse-drawn carriage to ride down The Mall in London.

Trooping the Colour is a traditional parade held to mark the British Sovereign's official birthday. It will be the first Trooping the Colour held for King Charles III since he ascended to the throne

Although King Charles also rode on horseback at Trooping the Colour in previous years, including his first as monarch in 2023, he was seated in a horse-drawn carriage alongside Queen Camilla for this year’s event. Charles also rode in a coach last year, just months after beginning his treatment for cancer, which he was diagnosed with in February 2024.

Trooping the Colour marked Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ second major royal event of the year. The children joined their parents in a surprise public appearance on May 5, attending the parade and flypast that kickstarted the U.K.’s commemorations for the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

The royal children — particularly Prince Louis — made headlines at this year’s event, as the 7-year-old was photographed smiling and having a fun time taking in the festivities. He sported a big smile during the parade, showing that his adult teeth are growing in after starring in his birthday portrait in April with a grin minus his two front teeth.

Louis also displayed his royal wave as he greeted the crowds lining the streets and shared some laughs with his big brother from inside their carriage. When royals later gathered on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the event’s grand finale, the aerial flypast, Prince Louis looked up at King Charles waving, and then copied him by greeting the crowd below with the same gesture.

As the royals headed back inside the palace, Louis made sure to turn and give one last wave to the crowd.
