Salma Hayek Reveals Her Delightfully Vintage Lifestyle: ‘I’m Not a Fan of Online Shopping’

Salma Hayek is contentedly devoid of technology.

In a conversation with Marie Claire for the magazine’s March 11 edition, the 58-year-old performer disclosed that she lacks a computer and feels it benefits her.

“It diminishes your intellect as the mind becomes lethargic,” Hayek stated in the mag’s “Craftsmanship” edition. “I compose everything manually. I have documents scattered everywhere. I seldom touch the phone. They can’t categorize me.”

“I don’t purchase online. I don’t request food via the internet,” she added, mentioning that she’s not keen on AI either. “Artificial intelligence doesn’t understand me.”

Hayek’s disdain for contemporary technology hasn’t hindered her from progressing in Hollywood. The Eternals performer opened up about crafting her inaugural feature film, something she described as “significant,” which she will direct, and her production company Ventanarosa will produce.

“I believe I’ve earned the privilege after 25 years of working for others,” Hayek remarked, noting that the film is “packed with surprises up to the end.”

The actress also contemplated the situation of gender imbalance in the entertainment field, highlighting that when films succeed, “the acknowledgment is given to the men.”

“The woman is merely the woman,” she commented to Marie Claire. “I do possess an audience, and they come to see me. However, I’ve never received recognition for the viewers I attract to the cinema.”

Regarding Hollywood’s advancement concerning middle-aged women, Hayek stated, “There was a period when I was considered the glamorous girl, but thankfully age arrived and allowed me to explore other domains. Though I’m still alluring, and I welcome it.”

“Another mission I have is to remind everyone that women are not expendable after reaching a certain age in any sphere. We should fight that stigma with everything we have,” she added.
