Sheryl Crow has opened up about why she felt the timing was not suitable for her to join The Voice at its launch.

“I had a newborn and did not want to move back to L.A.,” she recalled, quickly clarifying, “Actually, that’s not true. He [son Levi] was about 2 years old, and I didn’t want to move back to L.A., so I turned it down. Since then, I haven’t seriously considered it because our life here is quite busy, and having normalcy is really lovely.”

Sheryl Crow and her sons Wyatt and Levi arrive for the 38th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York City, on November 3, 2023.

“I don’t know if either of them really wants to pursue that, but they are both musical. I’m one of those parents who insists, ‘You have to take piano. Don’t argue with me about it,'” Crow said.

“As for my 15-year-old, he has a great ear and can play very well,” she continued. “He enjoys tinkering with music, but he aspires to be a marine biologist, so I’m not quite sure how to compete with that — I don’t even know what a marine biologist does. But I’m thrilled for him to pursue saving the reefs, which is what he wants to do.”

Crow mentioned that she has been introducing her children to some of the classic songs she enjoyed growing up, including her beloved Motown hits.

“They’re always like, ‘Mom, what’s this old music?’ Yet they find themselves humming and singing along,” she shared. “My 15-year-old frequently sings, ‘I got sunshine…’ So, I feel like I’m on the right track. I grew up with this music, and my son is a talented bass player learning from James Jamerson, just as I did.”
