Tom Brady Says He’d ‘Much Prefer’ to Still Be Playing in NFL but Broadcasting Job Is ‘Pretty Cool’

As Tom Brady continues to settle into his new sports broadcasting career, he’s admitting that actually playing football will always be “more fun.”

Brady, 47, who made his broadcasting debut at Fox Sports back in September, has now had some time to get out the early kinks that drew mixed reviews from critics — and the NFL legend is opening up about the experience after getting seven broadcast games under his belt.

During a recent appearance on the Let’s Go! podcast — which he used to co-host prior to joining Fox — Brady gushed about his new job, but said that broadcasting can’t beat the rush of playing on the field.

“It’s been really fun to sit and watch these games from the 50-yard line,” Brady said. “Although I’d much prefer to be on the field playing, because it’s a lot more fun down there, but I’m not doing that anymore. But just watching from above and seeing how these guys are performing is pretty cool,” he added.

Brady told PEOPLE exclusively in September he’s “very happy” with this new chapter of his life.

“For me, it was good to take some time off,” he said of his time between retiring from the NFL — for a second time in February 2023 — and making his debut in the broadcast booth earlier this month. “I had been on this treadmill going at a fast speed for a long time, and I loved it. I loved every minute of playing, and at the same time, when I retired, I really enjoyed that too.”

“Now, I’m back to work and I’m enjoying that, so I have no complaints,” Brady added. “Just like everybody else, I try to wake up and try to do my best for the people that matter the most to me. And when you commit to the people like I have in my broadcasting at Fox, I want to do a great job for them and my teammates there. So my life’s pretty full. I’m very happy.”
